Barista and Counter Help Part-time Artisan Bakery/Cafe (Salem, MA)

We’re looking for dependable team-oriented employees who understand what is means to work in customer service. Engaged and friendly service is a must. People with a positive attitude who enjoy engaging with the public are ideal candidates. We have long lasting relationships with our customer base, so consistent friendly customer service is expected.

At A&J King we work early hours as bakeries are busy in the morning, so if you’re an early bird this job may be for you!

We are a local family-owned bakery. We use as many local and seasonal products as we can to support our local farms and our surrounding community. This means that while you may not see any apple products during the spring months, you’ll have the best local apple tarts in the area come fall. We have our own custom-made stone mill and mill our own locally sourced flour!

As we are in the height of our farmers market season a drivers license is highly valued. During the holiday season we come in extra early to pack all our pre-orders and public transit does not often run during these hours.

Basic responsibilities include:

An ability to interface positively with customers to create a welcoming environment. Being friendly and polite to customers and coworkers alike. Using a register to accurately take orders and process money. Taking customer orders in person or over the phone. Packing pastries and bread carefully so that they get to their destination safely. Giving customers recommendations for purchases. Making coffee. Keeping the café clean. Wiping tables, changing trashes, sweeping, mopping, and washing dish-ware. Upholding local Health code standards for food service. This is not meant to be a full comprehensive list, just a basic outline of daily tasks.

We are looking for a couple long-term hire, our summer seasonal positions are filled for this year.

Compensation:

$18 per hour, which includes our Admin Wage program. See our website for details.

Candidate must:

Be available to work mornings and/or afternoons, weekdays, and weekend shifts.
Be able to work 3-5 shifts per week.
Be friendly and polite in a fast-paced customer service environment.
Ideally have a valid driver’s license.
Can lift 30-40lbs.
Are able to stand for long periods of time.
Are able to work quickly & accurately when needed.
Are able to work & communicate in team environment.
Have strong communication skills in person and on the phone.
Can rise early and arrive to early shifts on time.
Can regularly work between the hours of 6am-4pm. During holidays hours may differ.
