According to this narrative, after a long journey, Joseph planted his staff on Wearyall Hill, which miraculously sprouted into the Glastonbury Thorn, a symbol of divine approval. He then built a small wattle-and-daub chapel, believed to be the first Christian church in Britain, on the site of what later became the Lady Chapel at Glastonbury Abbey.

A central element of the legend is Joseph’s supposed role in bringing the Holy Grail to Britain.
