After being told he would die, Hezekiah prayed earnestly and wept, prompting God to grant him 15 additional years of life and heal him of a severe boil. Despite this mercy, Hezekiah fell into pride when Babylonian envoys visited. Instead of giving God credit, he showed off all his kingdom’s wealth, silver, gold, and armories to the foreigners. This act of vanity revealed his heart’s orientation and led the prophet Isaiah to prophecy that Babylon would eventually plunder Jerusalem and take Hezekiah’s descendants into captivity.
